Carburized layer
Carburized layer

Carburizing layer is the surface layer in which the carbon content of carburized parts is higher than that of raw materials. Carburizing refers to the process of carbon atoms penetrating into the surface layer of steel. Carburizing is a heat treatment process in which the steel is placed in the carburizing medium, heated to the single-phase austenite area, and kept warm for a certain period of time to make carbon atoms penetrate into the surface layer of the steel. After proper quenching and tempering treatment, the surface hardness, wear resistance and fatigue strength of the carburized steel parts can be improved, while the core parts still maintain certain strength and good plasticity and toughness, which are mainly used for parts subject to severe wear and large impact load.
